TOWARDS A NEW BUILDING CULTURE
HØSTE brings together design, material research, and construction.
We provide material consulting, material supply and design services, focusing on healthy construction systems for cultural and restoration projects.
We understand architecture not as a static object, but as a living process of material transformation, maintenance, and repair.
Our goal is to move from an extractive and destructive building practice to one of cultivation and care — working with what is around us, with awareness of seasons, systems, and cycles, and with attention to the practical constraints of project, proximity, and economy.
Through our work, we strive to cultivate a new building culture.
Design + consulting
Architects and designers are uniquely positioned to make material choices that influence not only production and practice, but also the culture of building itself.
We provide material consulting and design services focused on healthy building systems.
Our work supports both public and private clients who wish to reduce environmental impact through the use of biogenic materials and innovative construction methods.
Material Supply
HØSTE supplies biogenic and low-impact building materials — including paints, plasters, boards, and building elements made from clay, hemp, lime, and straw.
Through our partner Havnens Hænder, we offer high-quality, well-documented products while building a foundation for local production and circular material flows in Norway.
Whether you are looking for a plastic-free paint or support in evaluating material choices in a housing development, HØSTE can help.
Education
We offer training and learning opportunities that build hands-on competence in natural materials while fostering a broader understanding of their ecological and cultural value.
Our goal is to lower the threshold for using natural materials and build knowledge across the construction industry — from craftspeople and builders to architects, planners and entrepreneurs.
Through courses, workshops, and collaborations, we share practical experience in healthy materials, repair, and resource awareness, and contribute to research-based programs that connect material culture, ecology, and design practice.
COLLABORATIONS
We believe open-source collaboration is where innovation thrives. We build partnerships that connect traditional ecological knowledge with new technological developments.
We work with architects, institutions, researchers, and private clients to create fruitful and open collaborations. If you would like to meet and explore possibilities, we would love to hear from you.
